So, today I found out that TellTale games is going through amajor shutdown and they're only keeping a skeleton crew on board to work for the Netflix series Minecraft Story. At first, I didn't believe it, I'd grown up with TellTale, had been moved by their wacky characters with real characters and emotions, and it's given me some really cherished memories of a few of my favorite video games. I know that a lot of people are sad that TellTale is gone, which means that TWDG Season 4 will most likely never be released, but as someone who wants to make games like TellTale and Bioware of old, it's just...so sad to see, y'know?
When I was growing up, going to work at TellTale or Bioware was my dream, it was something that I wanted to do in the video game industry and inspired me to go down this path, but seeing so many hardworking people getting laid off all at once in this cut throat industry, is just so devastating. These are people that always gave us amazing stories and gripping narratives, and to see them get sent off without the respect I feel they deserve is just a travesty. I know that a lot of companies have had to do this, as things are starting to really come down on devs nowadays, and it just feels like, the industry is taking a really wrong turn, and it's future isn't going to get any brighter.
If entire studios like TellTale had to lay their staff off due to budget cuts, I hope they all get the recognition that they deserve and are given the chance to get back into the industry. I saw that a lot of the other game studios are going to be hiring them, and they took a stand to let them know that the people from TellTale are welcome to join their studios, but I wonder if it's really going to work?
Getting into the video game industry is freaking hard, and though these people had some amazing titles in their portfolio, it wasn't enough to keep them afloat. I just....I don't really know what the point of this post is, other than just me being upset about it, but I just wish things could've ended better for them. I wish, for all the things that these wonderful people gave us over the years, they quickly get another job in the industry, and hopefully, they get their own happy ending that they deserved.
